The Trust and Estate Dispute Resolution Act (TEDRA) in Washington provides those who are facing challenges with the administration of an estate or trust, an opportunity to use alternative dispute resolution to settle their differences. The first step in this process is to get the parties who are disputing, to agree to settle their disagreement out of court.
One of the best reasons to try to resolve issues outside of court is costs. Arbitration, mediation, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution often take less time, mean lower attorney fees, and could also mean issues get resolved faster. All parties must agree to be bound by the agreement struck in the TEDRA process. The final agreement then becomes as binding as a court ruling.
